SWIM TEAM
Hanover West Hurricanes
The Hanover West Swim Team was started in 1981 and is open to all families, even non-Club Members or those who live outside of the Hanover West neighborhood. Over the last several decades, the Hurricanes have brought back many trophies from dual and championship meets. In addition to the regular swim program, the Hurricanes offer a Pee Wee program. For more on the swim team program, including registration information, please go to the FAQ section below or the team website: https://hanoverwest.swimtopia.com

FAQ
MY CHILD CAN SWIM, BUT NOT GREAT. SHOULD WE SIGN UP?
We accept swimmers of all talents! Here are our suggested guidelines for joining the team:
Ages 6 and Under: At least 3 years old, can swim a full length of the pool without stopping more than once (no flotation devices). Only freestyle and backstroke (we teach details, as long as they can swim the lap somehow).
Ages 7 to 10: Can swim a full length of the pool without stopping
Ages 11 and Up: Can swim 2 lengths of the pool without stopping
WHAT SUPPLIES DO WE NEED TO INVEST IN?
There is a team swim suit that is suggested (not required) for meets. The link will be sent out for that and a try-on event once you register. The swimmers can wear this suit to practice, but we also suggest you get a practice suit so that the meet suit doesn't get worn out. You can find these types of swim suits at Dicks Sporting Goods or online at SwimShop.com. Goggles are a must! We recommend investing in a few pairs as they tend to disappear. We will have team swim caps for sale throughout the season.
WHAT GROUP WOULD MY CHILD FIT IN TO?
The age cut-off for the season is June 1. Whatever age your swimmer is on June 1 is the age group they will be in (6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, or 15-18).
WHEN ARE MEETS AND PRACTICES?
The meets and practices times are on the main page for the swim team.
HOW MANY PRACTICES ARE WE REQUIRED TO ATTEND?
Come as much as you can! There is an obvious correlation between the students who come to practices once a day and their improvement in times and technique! We have families who come once a day, twice a day or just three times a week. We suggest that to get your money's worth, you come to practice at least 3 times a week (out of the possible 9 practices).
DO WE HAVE TO SWIM IN THE MEETS?
Of course we would love for your family to be a part of the competition side of the team, but they are not required. If you choose to not swim in the meets, please make sure to let us know when we send out weekly sign-ups.
WHAT ARE THE FEES?
Please refer to the swim team website for the latest fee and registration information: https://hanoverwest.swimtopia.com
WHAT IS THE PEE WEE TEAM?
The Pee Wee team is for swimmers ages 3-5 who can swim in the shallow end on their own (without flotation devices) but aren't ready for a full lap yet. They meet after memorial day and do practices in the shallow end. They do not participate in swim meets or regular practices.
