OUR STORY

Just Where Did the "West" in Hanover West Come From?

Hanover West, proudly identified at the time by elegant brass letters on the curved brick wall at the main entrance, was first developed in 1960 by Dean Spratlin on property formerly owned by the Hyde family. Plans called for Hanover East to have been developed later on the East side of Bohler Road across from the Hanover West entrance. Thus, the West in Hanover West.

However, the dense underbrush and trees there – the pond was man-made later – gave way to Cross Creek which was developed by Tom Cousins in 1965 with Rockefeller financing, and Bartholome design. The original plan calling for the main entrance to be opposite the entrance from Bohler Road to Hanover West. Thanks to Benny Irvin and Hanover West's Civic Association Committee at the time, the proposed site was designated as flood plain. Another of the concessions from Cousins was to move the main Cross Creek entry – from directly opposite Hanover West – to its present location further up Bohler Road.

Today, Hanover West is an intimate west Buckhead community with around 100 homes. While much has changed over the course of its existence, Hanover West remains one of the most desirable residential locations in the city, and is widely known for its reputation as a friendly and family-oriented neighborhood of congenial people of all ages.
